Welcome to Los Alamitos Elementary School!

Tomorrow, after Community Monday, senior district leader will join us in the cafeteria to provide an overview of the Schools of Tomorrow initiative. Schools of Tomorrow is a collaborative, proactive process focused on how to continue to provide every child with an elementary school experience that prepares them to be the thinkers, leaders, and creators of tomorrow. This process may include reducing the number of elementary schools, re-aligning attendance boundaries, and/or the relocation of special programs with the goal of better serving students and staff. San José Unified recognizes the weight of these potential changes and is committed to a transparent process, including meetings like this one. This will be an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about Schools of Tomorrow with a senior leader from the district.

Let’s Be Bees

The only thing better than playing make believe is playing make believe with your favorite grown-up! Especially when that grown-up’s imagination is as big as yours, and you both get to make all kinds of funny sounds.

Shawn Harris is an award-winning creator of books for kids. He received a Caldecott Honor for his debut authored book Have You Ever Seen a Flower, which the New York Times called a “stunning tour de force.” His work as an illustrator includes What Can a Citizen Do?, Her Right Foot, and the Newbery Medal-winning bestseller The Eyes and the Impossible, all written by Dave Eggers; A Polar Bear in the Snow by Mac Barnett; and Everyone’s Awake by Colin Meloy, among others.

This is an all day event taking place on Friday, January 30 in the cafeteria. Students will have the opportunity to visit various stations where they will participate in hands-on activities to learn the science behind bubbles. Parents and adults, we need your assistance - Bubblefest will not be possible without you! It takes 70+ individuals to volunteer time or donate supplies for this day to be successful. Teacher schedules are listed so you are able to choose a time slot when your child's class will be attending. If you don’t see your child’s teacher’s name, they haven’t signed up yet, and I will update the sign-up when they do.

If a father or mother is unavailable, girls or boys are welcome to attend with any special adult guest.

We have plenty of moms volunteering and handling setup so dads can fully enjoy the Father/Daughter Dance. To make the Mother/Son Dance just as special, we are looking for a few dads to volunteer so moms can enjoy the evening with their sons.

Volunteering is easy- just helping monitor the kids, refill snacks, and assist with cleanup after the dance. All setup will be completed by moms the night before.

The Reading Lab is a tutoring program for students who would benefit from extra help with fundamental reading skills. 

We are looking for volunteers who can come in once per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) from 12:45pm - 2:00pm during the school year. Training for new tutors is provided!! Helping these new & growing readers is super fun and rewarding!  

***Volunteers must be registered with the district and approved by Los Alamitos.***
